Welcome

I'd always argued with people who questioned the impact facebook had on society by saying that it was really useful for organising and publicising events, connecting people, keeping them in touch, facilitating discussion and storing records. Over the last few months, however, I have become increasingly politicised, and mounting numbers of people have asked me to exclude them from any invitations or notes of a political nature. I have always responded that I respect my friends too much to censor what I expose them to, and would prefer to leave them to their own decisions in response to whatever I send round. It seems, however, that people are insistant that this is a misuse of facebook, so I've decided a blog will allow me to do what I'd thought facebook was for, and my friends can self-select whether or not they want to engage with politics online or not. For me, politics is just people, and I don't feel able to make the choice not to engage, however well-off I personally might be. There's a whole world out there: I hope we can make sense of it together.
